Practice at the door

Pick who answers. They talk to you out loud, you answer with your voice, and you're graded on the goal.

Objection drill

Say your answer out loud before you reveal. Every objection: Agree with the feeling, bridge to what matters to them, ask a question.

Time at the door

Goals and pace

Set a target and a date. Pace and staffing come from your last 14 days: what each canvasser-hour actually produces, how long shifts run, and how many people go out.

Maps, who walks them, and how each one is leaning

Canvassers only see the maps you add them to. Each map gets a lean grade from the doors on it: A strongly for the candidate · B leaning for · C even · D leaning against · F strongly for the opposition (10 answers needed). The AI can read the notes and say why.

Everyone, down to the person

Click a column to sort, a name for every shift and every door.

Red flags are signals, not verdicts: GPS drifts and some streets are empty at 2 pm. Open the person, look at their doors and shifts, then decide. A serious flag caps the grade at D until it clears.

How grades work

Timesheets

Shifts with open QA flags are held: their pay stays out of the payroll file until a manager clears or rejects the flags under QA.

Needs a manager's eye

Flags, not verdicts. GPS can be off by 40 meters on a cheap phone, so look at the whole shift before you decide. Clear keeps the record; Reject removes the door from the numbers.

Ready to send

Texts to not-home voters who haven't said yes to texts. A person reviews and sends them. They go out from the campaign phone, spaced apart, between 8 AM and 9 PM.

Pick a conversation. Replies from voters show up here and on the campaign phone itself.

Training for this organization

What this organization's canvassers see under Train, and what the AI voter and the AI grader work from. Every organization has its own.

Faces at the door

Illustrated portraits for the people canvassers practice with. Add a neutral image and the drawing is replaced; add talk (mouth open), happy and annoyed and the face moves with the voice and the mood. Generate them free with any image tool using the prompt sheet; 5:6 portrait, JPEG under 900 KB. Real-door scenarios use the generic faces by gender and age.

How practice doors are graded

Canvassers see this rubric before every door and get a point-by-point scorecard after. The server adds the points, so a 72 means the same thing for everyone.

Door script

Use {candidate} for the client's name
Canvassers can flip the script to Spanish at the door.

Objections and the best answer

These become the objection drill, and the AI voter raises them during role play.

Lessons

Start a line with "- " for a bullet. A blank line starts a new paragraph.

Upload voters

Your own voter file: from the county registrar, Numinar, PDI, L2 or a list you made. Comma, tab or pipe separated (.csv or .txt), any size; big county files upload in parts. Porchlight finds the columns itself, including county files where the house number, street name and street type are separate, and can split the file into one walk list per precinct. Addresses without a map position are placed automatically. Excel file? Save it as CSV first.

Addresses that couldn't be placed

Usually new construction, typos, or rural routes. Tap Place, then tap the house on the map.

Messages

Team members

Admins run everything. Managers run the field (turfs, QA, clients, numbers) but can't export data or change roles. Canvassers see their own work.

Your organization's data lives in its own file, separate from every other organization on this server. A dated, encrypted copy is saved on the server every day (14 kept), and when off-site copies are set up, an encrypted copy goes off-site every few minutes.

Texting and email accounts

Campaign phone (free texting)
  1. Use an Android phone with the number you want texts to come from (the candidate's or a prepaid line). Keep it charged and on Wi-Fi.
  2. Install SMS Gate (free, from Google Play or sms-gate.app). Turn on Cloud server and allow it to send and read texts.
  3. Copy the username and password from its Home screen, and the signing key from Settings → Webhooks, into the boxes below. Save, then tap Connect phone.
  4. Record the phone's voicemail greeting: "Hi, this is [candidate]. Leave your name and why you're calling, and I'll get back to you."

Email (Brevo — free, or SendGrid)

Brevo's free plan sends 300 emails a day. Sign up at brevo.com, verify your sender address, then paste the API key (starts with xkeysib-). A SendGrid key (starts with SG.) also works.

Opt-outs

People who replied STOP or used the unsubscribe link. Nothing is ever sent to them again from this organization.

Keys are encrypted on the server and never shown again after saving.

Phone checks

Each canvasser's latest "Check this phone" report. Fix these before a shift, not during one.
